DANIEL BURANOVSKÝ, a native of Banská Bystrica whose father was an opera conductor, began studying piano at four years of age. Later he studied music at the Conservatoire in Žilina. In 1989 he graduated with honors from the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava. He was awarded the Prize of the Slovak Minister of Education for his excellent stud ies and artistic achievements. Even as a student he won numerous prizes at various national Czechoslovak competitions. He then began his career as a concert pianist performing both in his home country and abroad. He has taken part at various international festivals of music: the Bratislava Festival of Music; the Central European Festival of Music in Žilina, where he was awarded the Prize of the Critics; the Festival of Contemporary Music in Katowice in Poland and the Festival of Czech Music in Bonn in Germa-
ny. As a solo pianist, he has worked with the following orchestras: The State Chamber Orchestra in Žilina, the National Philharmonic Orchestra in Košice, the Symphonic Orchestra of the Czechoslovak Radio Broadcasting in Bratislava, the Orchestra of the Beethoven Hall in Bonn. He has performed in many European countries, as well as in the United States, Argentina and Vietnam. He was visiting Professor of Music (Piano) at the Catholic University of Taegu Hyosung in South Korea 1999-2000. | In 2001 he successfully completed his PhD studies at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava in the field of music art – music interpretation. Since 2002 he has been a lecturer at the Music and Dance Faculty as well as the Head of the Department of Keyboard Instruments. He teaches piano and leads the seminar on interpretation. In 2012 he was appointed the University Professor of Music by the President of Slovakia.
