Marek Čermák is a graduate of orchestral conducting at Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno. He is mainly focused on performing the so-called early music, but also the common practice period as well as contemporary classical music. He based his theoretical and historical findings in the field of performance practice on the study of music treatise and archives of 18 th and 19 th century. He gained experience with orchestral conducting and chamber music practice thanks to working with various contemporary and early music ensembles. He acquired practical experience with chamber and solo music by working with Shalev Ad-El and James Johnston. He is an artistic director of the ensemble Musica Figuralis, he also co-operates with ensembles Societas incognitorum, Ars Brunensis Chorus, Solamente naturali, Brno Philharmonic Orchestra, The Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra, Czech Ensemble Baroque and more. The main focus of his work lies on performing and promoting modern premieres of Moravian, Austrian and Czech music of late 18 th century in authentic interpretation on period instruments.
